The profiles, produced by the Scottish Public Health Observatory (ScotPHO) team at the Information Services Division (ISD) of NHS National Services Scotland, comprise a variety of indicators of health and wider determinants of health. The profiles are designed to:
- Provide organisations and communities with up-to-date and locally-relevant public health intelligence.
- Highlight health and social inequalities.
- Show indicator trends.
- Provide local information for targeting resources and priority-setting.
- Develop knowledge of the complex nature of health and its determinants.
These profiles highlight the considerable variation in health between areas and help identify priorities for health improvement. The profiles give a snapshot overview of health for each area using spine charts (which show how the area compares to the Scottish average), and allow further understanding of the results via rank charts and trend charts.
Developed in response to the reception received to our previous profiles products, we have created a single unified resource available online as a means of replacing our pre-existing products, and publishing our new ones.
