Sexual health: national targets
The only existing targets in this area refer to teenage pregnancy:
"reducing by 20% the pregnancy rate (per 1,000 population) in 13-15-year-olds from 8.5 in 1995 to 6.8 by 2010 along with the further target of reducing teenage pregnancies among 13-15-year-olds in the most deprived communities by 33% from a rate of 12.6 in 2000-02 to 8.4 in 2007-09".

In 2003/04, the pregnancy rate in the 13-15 year old age group was 7.5 per 1,000 women. This is above the 2010 target, but if the general / slight downward trend in the pregnancy rate in this age group that has been apparent over recent years continues the first target is likely to be met. There is insufficient data available yet to assess whether the target for deprived communities is likely to be met.
