Tobacco use: maternal smoking by NHS board

Geographical variations exist across Scotland in the percentage of women smoking during pregnancy. Chart 1 shows these variations by NHS board for 2008. Care should be taken when comparing NHS boards due to differences across the boards in the percentage where smoking status is recorded as "not known". Some of those recorded as "not known" may be smokers. As a result, the percentage recorded as current smokers may underestimate the true smoking prevalence among pregnant women.
