Pilot interactive profiler

*** Please note: We have now updated our community profiles, for more up-to-date community-based information please visit our New CHP profiles page. ***

Welcome to the trial version of our interactive profiles. The purpose of these profiles is to present health and wellbeing indicators in a user-friendly graphical format, combining 'spine graphs', maps, tables and charts in a way that allows the user to select, filter, sort and generally explore the data.

The profiler has been developed in co-operation with GeoWise Ltd, using their InstantAtlasTM application. The software makes use of Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) technology, and users must therefore download and install a SVG Viewer before they can view the Atlas. Click here to test whether SVG Viewer has been successfully installed.

Note that the package currently requires a reasonably fast internet connection to function properly. Access via a 56k modem dial-up connection is likely to be extremely slow. Even with a fast connection, however, please note that it may also take up to a minute to open the package in a new window.

Note also that all the data included in the profiler were originally compiled for NHS Health Scotland's Community Health & Well-Being Profiles, which were published in July 2004. Thus, all the data are presented at two geographical levels: 'community' (primary care-based localities with populations ranging from 20,000-140,000 people) and postcode sector (small areas with populations of around 3,000-5,000 on average). All the profiles are available in .pdf format within the  pages of the website.

Important
The purpose of these pages is to evaluate the usefulness of presenting the data as part of an on-line system. The  themselves have already been successfully evaluated; the aim here, however, is to determine the added benefits (or otherwise) of accessing the data in a more interactive way. All comments on the profiler, therefore, would be welcomed. Please email the scotpho website.

Access the BASIC PILOT INTERACTIVE PROFILER (please ensure you have read the instructions above).

Access the advanced version of the pilot interactive profiler (Note: we recommend you try the basic version first).

We have also produced tips on using the interactive profiler to help familiarise users with the main features of the profiler.

Note: if a message is displayed asking the user to open or save a "atlas.svg" file, this probably means that the required SVG Viewer software has not been installed properly. Click here to test whether SVG Viewer has been successfully installed, and if not, please re-install it.

Note to users of Firefox internet browser: unfortunately, the latest version of Firefox does not support the Adobe SVG reader, and native SVG support within Firefox does not yet support all the elements of the SVG specification used within the interactive profiles. We hope this may be rectified in any future version of the profiler.
