Health inequalities: data

There is a lack of accurate and comprehensive data for measuring and monitoring many aspects of health inequalities. However,  some examples of inequalities are presented within the pages of this website’s many health and health related topics.

Note that in most cases these examples will principally relate to inequalities in relation to socio-economic deprivation (e.g. data presented by different deprivation groupings). However, data is also presented at different geographical levels, by gender, and some information on health inequalities relevant to ethnicity is also available.

Note also that NHS Health Scotland's Community Profiles (2004) can be used to examine differences in around 60 health and health related indicators for small areas (postcode sectors) across Scotland. The data are also available via the pilot interactive profiles pages. Similarly, more up to date data from the new CHP profiles (2008) can be used to show variation at the CHP level across Scotland.
