Allergic conditions: primary care data

The table shows data from the ISD's Practice Team Information (PTI) programme. This provides national estimates of the prevalence of various conditions, based on records of consultations with members of the primary care team at a representative sample of Scottish practices. These figures may underestimate the true prevalence because they include only those people who have consulted for the specific problem during the time period under consideration, and do not include those who manage their own condition.

Table. Patients in Scotland consulting a GP or Practice Nurse at least once in the year ending 31 March 2008: rates per 10,000 population and 95% confidence intervals; rates of consultations per 10,000 population and 95% confidence intervals (1).

(1) Source: Practice Team Information (PTI), ISD Scotland [IR2009-02067], based on 47 PTI practices that submitted complete GP and practice nurse data for the year ending 31 March 2008. Figures are standardised by gender, age and deprivation. For PTI purposes, 'practice nurse' is defined as practice-employed nurses and their clinical assistants (e.g. phlebotomists and health care assistants), and 'GP' includes locums and registrars.
