Disability: data introduction
The following disability data pages focus on:
- the percentage of adults of working age in receipt of Employment Support Allowance (ESA) (replaced incapacity benefit (IB) and severe disability allowance (SDA) paid on incapacity grounds in October 2008).
- estimates of the percentage of adults in Scotland reporting that they have a long-standing illness, health problem or disability.
- estimates of the percentage of adults in Scotland reporting that they are not in good health.
Please refer to the key data sources page for an indication of where additional disability related information may be accessed.
Note also that some relevant data (e.g. adults unable to work due to illness/disability, disability living allowance, attendance allowance claimants, long-term limiting illness, self-assessed health classified as 'not good') are included within ScotPHO's New Community Health Profiles (held within this website).
The table below shows the dimensions and geographies for which disability data are presented within the data pages which follow.
