Immunisations: key data sources
Scottish Immunisation Recall System- Information on primary immunisation is recorded in the Scottish Immunisation Recall System (SIRS), which covers the fifteen NHS boards in Scotland. Grampian, Orkney and Shetland were previously part of the Grampian Immunisation and Record System (GIRS). However, as from December 2002 the SIRS and GIRS systems amalgamated into a Scottish system.
Health Protection Scotland, formerly the Scottish Centre for Infection and Environmental Health, is responsible for the national surveillance of communicable diseases in Scotland. Data is provided though an extensive surveillance network, which encompasses laboratories, hospitals, General Practitioners, NHS boards and local authority departments, in addition to surveillance centres in Europe and around the world.
UNICEF produces statistics globally and by country and provides a tool for generating customised statistical tables. The statistical tool includes economic and social data from 195 countries and territories, with particular reference to children’s well-being. These statistics are derived from the UNICEF publication, The State of the World's Children 2005.
