Asthma: mortality data
Data on mortality from asthma are published by the General Register Office for Scotland (GROS) within their Vital Events Reference Tables (table 6.4). Chart 1 shows the annual number of deaths in Scotland where asthma was the underlying cause. In 2007 there were 112 deaths where the underlying cause was asthma. The relatively small number of deaths means that there are large year to year fluctuations in the numbers with no clear trend over the seven year period shown.
