Chart 1 shows the trend in destinations of school leavers nationally. Overall the trends point to greater percentages of school leavers going onto higher education ( although there was a drop in the latest year), further education and employment, while the percentage going onto training has dropped from 19% in 1992/93 to 5% in 2003/04. Other destinations (not graphed) are: unemployment accounting for 16% of leavers destinations in 2003/04; and, unknown destinations which accounted for 4% of leavers in 2003/04. |

Chart 2 shows the percentage of school leavers entering higher or further education by council. Nationally, in 2003/04, 50% of school leavers went onto higher or further education. Glasgow City had the lowest percentage that went onto higher of further education (40%) and Angus had the highest percentage (65%). It should be noted that the Scotland figure includes Grant-Aided schools, while the Glasgow City figure excludes Grant-Aided schools. |
