Deaths: all-cause deaths by deprivation

Chart 1 shows the clear relationship between mortality and deprivation (as measured by the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation (SIMD)) in Scotland, with a gradient in all-cause death rates evident across the ten deprivation groupings shown. In 2005, the age and sex standardised mortality rate (here expressed per 100,000 population) of the least deprived decile was less than half the rate of the most deprived decile.
