PHINS Seminar - 29th September 2006

This year's PHINS (Public Health Information Network for Scotland) seminar took place in Glasgow on the morning of Friday 29th September 2006 at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall. Around 200 delegates attended.

Below are links to a selection of the talks presented at the seminar. Please note that most of the links are to PowerPoint presentations, some of which may take several minutes to download. David Walsh provided a general update on health & well-being related information projects in ScotlandDownload powerpoint button(3,700KB). 

Bruce Whyte gave a presentation on inequalities in Glasgow & the west of Scotland Download powerpoint button(1,300KB). Note that this presentation was based on the 'Let Glasgow Flourish' report, published recently by the Glasgow Centre for Population Health.

David Webster presented his work on Male worklessness and the rise of the lone parent family PDF Button(1,200 KB). Note that this link is not to the PowerPoint presentation, but to the more detailed paper on which the presentation was based.

Emily Postan gave a presentation on Investigating environmental justice in Scotland Download powerpoint button(485KB).

Pauline Craig discussed CHPs and Health Inequalities Download powerpoint button(800KB).

Marella O'Neil described work in North Ayrshire under the title of 'Working differently - making a difference' Download powerpoint button(380KB).

Finally - and in a change from the original programme - Steve Platt discussed 'Socioeconomic deprivation, social exclusion and suicide in Scotland: evidence and policy implications'. Unfortunately, as this work has not yet been published, the presentation is not available to download. However, a link to the published paper will be made available in time.
