PHINS Seminar - 7th September 2007
This year's PHINS (Public Health Information Network for Scotland) seminar took place in Glasgow on the morning of Friday 7th September 2007 at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall. Around 150 delegates attended.

General update section
Bruce Whyte (Glasgow Centre for Population Health) and David Gordon (NHS Health Scotland) provided a general update on Health & well-being related information projects in Scotland (670 KB).
International comparisons section
Alison Burlison (ISD Scotland) gave a presentation on the Health for All Database(880 KB), looking at how Scotland compares to the UK and other European countries.
David Walsh (Glasgow Centre for Population Health) and Martin Taulbut (NHS Health Scotland) jointly presented interim findings from a project comparing mortality between Scotland (and, specifically, the West of Scotland) and other relevant European regions. Note that as the material has not yet been published, the presentation will be made available at a later date.
Linsay Gray (MRC Social and Public Health Sciences Unit, Glasgow) gave a presentation on Comparisons of health-related behaviours and health outcomes in Glasgow with other regional areas in Europe (1.2 MB).
New insights into inequalities section
Peter Kelly (Poverty Alliance) gave an overview of Poverty in Scotland(130KB).
Diane Stockton (ISD Scotland) discussed Inequalities in rural health in Scotland (1.7 MB).
Rosalia Munoz-Arroyo (ISD Scotland) presented work on Measuring health inequalities at a national and local level(1.1 MB)
Finally, Alastair Leyland (MRC Social and Public Health Sciences Unit, Glasgow) gave an overview of Inequalities in mortality in Scotland 1981-2001(5.1 MB). Note that the full report from which the presentation is based can be downloaded from http://www.inequalitiesinhealth.com/.
