Local area burden of disease

Our most recent data release provides detailed insights into health loss across local areas in Scotland. It does this by assessing how ill-health and premature death, from over 70 diseases and injuries, contribute to disease burden in Scotland and across local areas, and which prevent us living longer and healthier lives. These outputs are intended to support the ongoing and future monitoring of population health in local areas across Scotland.

Due to changes in methodology, please note that these revised estimates replace our previously published 2016 sub national estimates of disease burden. Further details of these changes are available in our SBoD local geography explorer. All reports and data files for SBoD2016 are available in our archive.

We have also produced a Guide to using local burden of disease estimates (0.4Mb) outlining the processes used to create local burden of disease estimates and important factors to consider when interpreting and using our estimates.
