Health inequalities: UK trends
Please note: these figures are being updated in an upcoming journal article. We will provide the updated charts as soon as the paper is published.
Charts 1 (males) and 2 (females) present trends in the Relative Index of Inequality for Scotland compared with England & Wales between 1981 and 2011. These show that relative inequalities in mortality have been increasing in Scotland over many decades. This is also the case in England & Wales. However, inequalities among males have been wider in Scotland since about 1991, and for females this has been the case for the whole period shown.
Please note: If you require the most up-to-date data available, please check the data sources directly as new data may have been published since these data pages were last updated. Although we endeavour to ensure that the data pages are kept up-to-date, there may be a time lag between new data being published and the relevant ScotPHO web pages being updated.
