Future burden of disease
A version of the ‘Scottish Burden of Disease - disease-specific forecasts of prevalence and burden’ reports were published temporarily in error on 27 May 2025. As was previously confirmed on the PHS website, the final reports have been delayed and are scheduled to be published on 24 June once the necessary quality assurance checks have been made.
PHS is working to investigate this issue and implement actions to minimise the risk of such an error being repeated.
Recently, the Scottish Burden of Disease study has been developed to explore future population health trends and scenarios. These foresight exercises allow us to anticipate the potential scale of future challenges for public health and the health and social care system in Scotland.
