Based on European studies annual incidence rates were estimated at 70 per 100,000 among children and adolescents, 30 per 100,000 among those aged 20-64 years and 100 per 100,000 among those 65 years and older.

Epilepsy: useful links

Epilepsy Scotland is a Scottish-based charity that campaigns for improvements in services for people with epilepsy in Scotland.

The Joint Epilepsy Council is an umbrella body for voluntary sector organisations working in the epilepsy field in the UK. In September 2011 the JEC published an epilepsy epidemiology summary covering the UK. This summary was based on prevalence figures from the General Practice Research Database (GPRD) and included only people with a diagnosis of epilepsy who were receiving prescriptions for anti-epilepsy drugs.

The Epilepsy Society is a UK-wide organisation providing information and support to people affected by epilepsy and to professionals.

Epilepsy Action (the British Epilepsy Association) is a UK-wide charity for people with epilepsy. It provides a range of information resources for professionals and people with epilepsy.

SUDEP Action is a charity that provides information and support in relation to sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP).
